This custom-designed adapter enables the use of 4-inch welding wire spools with the integrated wire feeder of the xTool MetalFab laser welder.

Specifically designed to maximize the versatility of your laser welding equipment, this adapter solves a common problem: xTool's standard wire feeder only accepts 8" and 12" spools, limiting your consumable supply options.

Simplified Assembly: Nearly all hardware is now 3D printed, reducing external parts needed and overall cost. Only a standard compression spring is required!

Left-Hand ACME Threads: Integrated left-hand threaded shaft prevents the spool from loosening during operation as wire unwinds. No more readjusting mid-weld!

Fully Integrated Design: The bolt and washer are now printed as part of the assembly, eliminating the need for metal fasteners and brass inserts.

Optimized for Strength: Designed specifically for vertical printing orientation to maximize thread quality while maintaining structural integrity through strategic reinforcement.

Standard wire feeder system accepting 8" and 12" spools.

Compatible with:

• xTool MetalFab 1200W (with wire feeder)

• xTool MetalFab 800W (with built-in wire feeding mechanism, check compatibility)

Supported wire types:

• Stainless steel (Ø 0.8-1.2mm)

• Carbon steel (Ø 0.8-1.2mm)

• Other standard welding wires on 4" spools

Recommended Print Specifications:

• Suggested material: PETG Fiber Glass or ABS for increased durability

• Layer height: 0.6 mm

• Infill: 30-50%

• Supports: Required for certain sections

Critical Note: The vertical printing orientation is essential for high-quality ACME threads. The increased wall count and infill percentage compensate for layer orientation, ensuring adequate strength for repeated use.

Assembly Instructions

Step 1: Print the Components

Print all parts according to the recommended specifications above. The STL package includes:

• Main adapter body with ACME threaded shaft

• Integrated bolt with knob

• Integrated washer/retaining disc

Step 2: Post-Processing (Optional but Recommended)

• Clean the ACME threads with a small brush to remove any stringing

• For smoother operation, you can lightly lubricate the threads with dry lubricant or PTFE spray

Step 3: Assembly

1. Insert the compression spring onto the threaded shaft

2. Place your 4-inch spool onto the shaft

3. Thread the printed bolt through the center of the spool

4. Tighten the bolt (counter-clockwise due to left-hand threads) to compress the spring and secure the spool

Step 4: Installation on xTool MetalFab

1. Remove the current spool from the xTool wire feeder (if applicable)

2. Mount the assembled adapter onto the wire feeder shaft

3. Adjust wire tension and guide as needed

4. Start welding!

Note: The left-hand ACME threads will naturally tighten as the wire unspools, keeping your spool secure throughout operation. No need to re-tighten during use!
